Westside Market Hall Food Complex

This is the proposed new "Market Hall" for the corner of Washington and Centinela. I think it will be a great addition to our Del Rey neighborhood. I'm just hoping the economic downturn isn't holding things up. The Site is here, and if it's anything like San Francisco's Ferry Building we are all in for a real treat.

Laurent Bonjour's Mobile Frommagerie

We went to a great event on Friday at RoyalT for wine champagne and cheese tasting. It was very nice, perfectly timed right after work, easy to get to and very relaxed. The wine was fantastic (will post the list soon) and the cheese was FANTASTIC. This guy just goes around in his truck and supplies some of the best restaurants in CC and Del Rey with his fantastic fromage. He was like the adult version of Blue Bell!

Sazon Latin Fusion Centinella/Washington

Sazon is one of those neighborhood gems you probably drive or walk by everyday but never go into. I finally got around to going and it was REALLY worth it. Probably the best Cubano sandwich this side of Sepulveda and at $6 and change a great deal as well.

The fries left a little something to be desired but again this is a great spot and the empanadas were also fantastic. Next time you are at B&B just pop over for lunch, you wont' regret it...

B&B Hardware

If he can fix the country with it, I'm sure our silly little household problems can be solved with duct tape as well. It's a great little store, filled with things you can actually use (Like Duct Tape not a big box store where minimum wage slaves take their teen angst out on you...

Also, they have great deals on all sorts of things, our neighbors got some great Adirondack chairs for like 20 bucks...

The Alibi Room

This great little bar just down the corner from Centinela and Washington is one of the best kept secrets on the westside. Given my five readers, it'll still be a secret after this post.

The Alibi room was started by the same pair that did The Brig and is working on the Washinela project. The design is great, the bartenders are friendly and best of all they have a full bar and POUTINE (Cheese Fries with Gravy), one of the greatest drunk foods ever created. I'm embarrassed that this little dish didn't come from Wisconsin and actually has it's roots in Canadia, a close cousin to Wisco.

Feel free to drop in and have a refreshing scotch anytime. Tell them "Aaron Sent-chya" they'll give you a great blank stare.

Eat & Drink Locally At The Wood

Long time readers (we've been up for 3 days now) will know that we love our local places to eat. The new corner spot at Washington and Engelwood is called appropriately The Wood and it serves up local food and drinks all with an organic touch. It was created by the guys who brought you Cafe Laraunt and Venice Grind so you know it's good.

We had breakfast and an early dinner, the French Onion soup was ok (it's veggie so what can you expect) and the sandwich I had was very nice a baguette with proscuitto and melon and brie.

If you are in the hood and want to drop by, here is the site http://www.thewoodcafe.com

Enjoy!

Ballona Creek Bike Path

As many people in our hood know, the Ballona Creek (gate pictued above) bike path is a great way to get from 90066 out to the beach or into Culver City. We drove past the Culver Blvd. part last weekend and they looked to be about 85% finished with the path redevelopment. It won't be long until the invading hordes of bikers can roll into downtown Culver City all while being safe on the path.

Del Rey Neighborhood Los Angeles 90066

From Wiki:

Del Rey takes its name from the nearby Del Rey salt marshes, and sits on low ground on the banks of Ballona Creek. Del Rey's boundaries are approximately Culver Boulevard on the northwest, Lincoln Boulevard on the southwest, Jefferson Boulevard on the southeast, and the city limits of Culver City on the northeast. Adjoining the district are Marina del Rey and Playa Vista on the southwest, Mar Vista on the northwest, Culver City on the northeast, and Westchester on the southeast. The San Diego Freeway (I-405) runs through the northeast corner of the district, and the Marina Freeway (SR 90) runs through its southern portions. Although it is part of the city of Los Angeles, a large portion of Del Rey is in Culver City's 90230 ZIP code, but also encompasses the 90066 ZIP code. Del Rey is between one and two miles from the beach, which is easily accessed by bicycle and walking.
